For nearly 40 years, Ann Medellin has helped musicians discover what they are capable of, and find joy in the process. As a professional violinist, educator, conductor, and mentor, she brings exceptional experience, energy, and perspective to every musical experience. Her goal is not simply to make better musicians, but to inspire confident, curious, and deeply connected people through music.
Beyond the classroom, Ann had the privilege of serving on the Portland Youth Philharmonic Education Board. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped develop a virtual string lesson program that connected students in rural communities and our partner city of Vancouver with exceptional instruction. One of the most meaningful aspects of this work was mentoring advanced Portland Youth Philharmonic musicians as they learned the art of teaching younger students. Watching these young musicians become teachers themselves was a powerful reminder that music has the ability to connect people, inspire leadership, and build community.

Ann is also deeply involved with House of Scordatura, a nonprofit musical ensemble that combines her love of performance, storytelling, and Oregon’s rich cultural history. Through original music and animated films, House of Scordatura creates experiences that invite audiences to discover the people and stories that make Oregon unique.
